Driving into Bran, Romania around sunset....the castle popped into view between the high pitched houses...this is where our story begins............

It was a dark and stormy night......we were in the small Transylvanian region of Romania called Bran. Deciding to travel by foot, after hours of driving by a diesel fueled beast, myself, my kinfolk (Bryant), an aquaintance (Matt) and my wee ones (Eth, Izzy and Stats) decided to stop for a rest at the gate of a large, ominous castle...known by legend as "Dracula's Castle". To us, it meant nothing, we were doing what tourists do, when ALAS.....Our third child, by the name of Isabella felt a tugging within her gums.

The twisting and turning continued, until at the gates of Dracula's Castle her tooth (dum dum dum)FELL OUT! (dramatic pause) ...not any tooth mind you, but her eye tooth. YES, we would have to turn a keen eye toward her. She began looking at us very eerily, almost like we were tasty!

spinstress web on the entrance gates!

Queen's tea house and garden....er, I mean where they rounded up the peasants and ate them...

Up the path we ascended, toward the towering castle on the cliffs above, until we found ourselves at the base of a steep stairway, leading to the front door. Crazy-haired guards looked down at us, daring us to make the ascent. We took their challenge.

overlooking central courtyard

"Shh-sh-sh! Secret Tunnels!"

Vlad Tepes type-Outfit, he was called Dracula, meaning son of the Dragon...his Father was a famous mason with the nickname Dragon...Ethan could really appreciate the chain mail after helping Bryan make a suit last fall

Cousin, Bryant Hawkes who inspired the trip.... This is for all the ladies out there! :)

Hey, we thought vampires slept in coffins.....where's the crypt? Still, we loved the thick wooden furniture. This place would've have been tough to keep warm in the cool mountain winters

Is it just me, or do his teeth suddenly look extra long?????

Check out this cool architecture!

Ethan shows Izzy all the places we've visited on a map!

Izzy takes a break at the top of the stairs, she developed a fever as soon as we stepped into the castle....coincidence? Hmmmmm!

NOOOOOO! Budding Vampire....grab the garlic! We knew there was something funny about those hungry eyes of hers. Turns out it was a hungry mouth! ha ha

Ethan loved Bryant's binoculars....looking southwesterly, out toward Bran Pass...the reason for the fortificaton. The strange door beside him we guessed was either to dump rain water, or boiling pitch.....we liked the boiling pitch idea!

inside the courtyard

Our weary feet look!

If there would've been any mirrors in that place, I may have noticed my long teeth too! That little chubby baby attached to me is smelling yummy! I think he also found something he'd like to stick in his mouth.....look at that neck! :)

As we decended the walkway, Izzy suddenly was feeling great....fever never returned....but that funny look in her eye??

What the??? There's that crazy kid! Scary llama masks

Great little souvenier area where we all searched for something unique..."Special Deal for you" Notice the castle in the distance...

Bryant's highschool buddy Matt, sporting... Huh?

Edward Cullen...beware! Bryant shares the souvenier blade he picked up...seriously, what vampire really needs a knife with fangs like those?

Ethan was so excited to find a sword! Izzy got a little peasant shirt and beaded bracelet...she settled after seeing a $200 white mink fur hat!!! It was beautiful, wished we'd have taken a picture of her trying it on for fun.

local countryside, Bryant liked the thought of this cute little lady tending to her garden, directly across from the castle grounds. I guess you could say she was Dracula's neighbor.

My last feast of the day....Statton. Actually, we had a fun little meal together at an outdoor cafe at the base of the castle while kittens played at our feet. It was a 6 hour drive back to Constanta, but it went quickly with fun conversations and erratic Romanian drivers! Matt helped drive, so I could tend to Statton. It was a great help.
